TAVA HOVY : REMAKING ASUNCION WATERFRONT, PARAGUAY STUDIO POP CELEBRATES TEAM PARTICIPATION IN THE 22ND CONGRESS OF ARQUISUR 2018
Studio Pop CIC in partnership with our Paraguayan team led by Stella González, Lea Knnor and Hugo Falcón are celebrating the presentation of our ecological master plan for the riverside in the city of Asuncion, Paraguay, celebrated in the 22nd Congress of ARQUISUR 2018 “The Public Dimension of Architecture” held in the Facultad de Arquitectura, Planeamiento y Diseño de la Universidad Nacional de Rosario (Argentina) on 26-28 de September 2018: http://arquisur.org
This work is the result of a multidisciplinary team of independent professionals and university professors in the area of architecture and engineering who participated in an Ecological Urban Design Competition. The outcomes of this project have been published in the Congress proceeding
The site of the proposal is located in Bañado Norte, in Asunción city, near the Paraguay River, Inhabited by communities of limited resources. The Bañado Norte area is a risk zone with toxic underused lands and frequent floods due to its flat condition and proximity to this massive waterway.
Currently in this wetland, local biodiversity is endangered. Both soil and water resources –streams, aquifers and several lagoons- show a high level of degradation due to the presence of polluted disposals drained from the residential and industrial activities up the slope and also pathological wasteland produced by chemical deposits, informal landfills and flytipping, spoiling soil’s nutrients and river life.
Following a systematic design methodology with in-depth analysis, on-site observations, surveys, interviews and consultations with specialists in various areas, the TAVA HOVY project -”Green City” in Guarani- was planned in a sequence of strategic developing phases –pilot/test, restorative/regenerative, infrastructural and programmatic stages- targeting its completion in 2050.
The aim of the TAVA HOVY project is to generate “regenerative micro-urban clusters” fed by high urbanity -with compact, inclusive, diverse and green social life styles- where social innovation and solidarity networks converge; integrated systems with diverse functions and social touchpoints; communities that integrate living and working creatively. As result TAVA HOVY can contribute to humanize and democratize our common spaces to improve the quality of life, enrich a sustainable urbanity with integral and innovative solutions, including environmental self-management; preservation and conservation of existing natural assets; and the experimentation of bioclimatic architectures that jointly respond to the needs of health, safe and entertaining places, resilience programmes, and modernised sorft and hard infrastructures, including public services and green mobility.
